Completion of a Military Technical Certificate in the field of Military Leadership, Logistics, or Dangerous Materials Handling prepares a student with the skills to successfully execute the duties in these fields during daily military operations. Military technical fields are an ever-expanding specialty that involves complex systems, hardware and technologies. These systems and technologies possess increasing civilian applications. Dependent upon critical thought processes and the ability to utilize these ever evolving technologies, today’s military personnel are involved in mission planning, risk assessments, identifying potential hazards, supervising preparations, identifying and maintaining assets, training personnel, and conducting and supervising additional duties. Completion of a Military Technical Certificate encompasses and addresses these required skills.
The AGS of Military Studies is designed to enhance the professional competence of Active Duty, Reserve Component, and National Guard service members. Completion of the degree will provide service members the education points needed for promotion and will establish the foundation for advancement toward a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum builds upon the basic general education requirements and provides focused instruction in the following areas: Leadership and Management, Military History, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Psychology, Sociology and Computer Science. The certificate program consist of 3 separate certificates; Leadership, Logistics, Dangerous Materials Handling. Each certificate requires the successful completion of 30 credit hours. Students may seek an individual certificate or complete all three. Most courses within each certificate are commonly offered at formal military schools and military installations throughout the Department of Defense. Credit may be awarded for previous attendance at these schools. Upon verification of documentation, students may transfer in up to 24 credit hours for successful completion of approved military courses. Each certificate requires the completion of 6 credit hours from the listed courses (on the curriculum guides linked below) with Barton Community College to meet residency requirements. An overall 2.0 grade point average must be achieved for graduation.
